Thank you to all the village group representatives who came to our cheese and wine evening. The purpose of the evening was to introduce our new organisation to people, and to exchange ideas as to how we could bring the Mayfield community together and help each other.

Representatives from twelve groups came to the evening and we had very productive discussions. The MRA suggesting bringing back a barbeque on the playing fields in summer. Mayfield Music were short of volunteers to put up a stage four times a year, and Santa needed helpers with his Christmas float around Mayfield. We proposed compiling a list of people who would help by occasionally volunteering for village activities when needed. If you would be willing to be on such a list please email office@marna.org.uk.

Easter eggs

We also talked about the events we are planning. Our next is an Easter Egg hunt in the vicarage garden with Easter craft activities in the Church Rooms and an Easter Quiz. To bring the older members of our community together with the youngest, we asked Gwen Johnson, chair of the Senior Social Club, whether any of her members would like to help the children with their craft activities and egg hunt. She liked the idea and will bring it up at their next meeting. The proceeds of a raffle and refreshment sales on the day will be split between Senior Social Club and Marna.

For each of our future events we will be inviting a village group to fundraise alongside us – to nominate your group just get in touch.

A groups’ “Open Day” was also discussed. The idea is that each group would have a stall in the Memorial to showcase what is available in Mayfield. The bar would be open and the community invited in to see what is on offer. The provisional date for this is 4th May.
