Hosted by Des Coleman of ITV News Central, the awards ceremony recognises individuals, groups and businesses who have made a difference to their community in the past year. Alz won for her work as Chair of MARNA, her efforts to rejuvenate the Mayfield Recreational Association’s playground and multi-use games area (MUGA or the old skate park), her contribution to the Mayfield Memorial Hall as their Health and Safety Officer and her commitment to helping the different groups of Mayfield work together. The judges noted that not only did she give so much of her time to the community, she was also a busy working mother of two.

Alz commented

“I am delighted that I was nominated and out of 10 finalists I won this award. I didn’t expect it and I’m really pleased that I’ve been recognised for the work I do for our community. I will do my best to carry on and keep improving Mayfield and helping others. If anyone would like to join MARNA please get in touch. Big thank you to Trent and Dove Housing for giving me this opportunity and to MARNA team for the support “

MARNA was also nominated, this time in the category Overall Impact on the Community by an Organisation. We didn’t win but were pleased just to be there. The Trent & Dove Volunteer force got a special recognition in this category, having put in an amazing 9000 volunteer hours over the year. In Mayfield, amongst other things, their help was invaluable in the initial clearing of the MUGA. Other winners on the night included the Burton Night Shelter, Else Solicitors and Grub’s Up,
