On the Saturday before Christmas the Trent and Dove Housing Association sponsored a party for the children of Mayfield. Organised by Mrs Alz Coates and held at the Mayfield Memorial Hall, 40 children came and hugely enjoyed the event.

It started with a magician – Magic Mahem – keeping the kids entertained and in fits of laughter. Just as he finished tying his last balloon reindeer the Elves brought in Father Christmas. Each child visited Santa in his grotto and received a present.

The Royal Oak pub did the catering and produced a yummy party lunch. Mince pies, beautiful Christmas fairy cakes (baked by Mrs Mel Coates), tea and coffee were also on sale, the proceeds of which, along with a raffle of a giant teddy bear, went to the Wendy Club (the Mayfield playgroup for the under-fives). Mandy and Graham “Bush” Sowter opened the Memorial Hall bar and generously also donated the bar fee to Wendy Club. Charlotte Heathcote, who runs the group, was delighted with the £84 pounds raised which will go towards buying soft play equipment.

Many volunteers helped with the party – including Charlotte, John, Victoria, Shannon, Poppy, Kevin, Mark, Kelly, Jill, Palo, Lucy and Dave – and everyone present agreed that the event had been very well run and organised.
