We’re delighted to have been nominated for an “Impact on the Community” award. The award recognises projects which are “Transforming Homes, Lives or Neighbourhoods” across East Staffordshire, South Derbyshire and North West Leicestershire.
The description seems a little grand for us but we’re very pleased just to have been nominated. With the help of many Mayfield people and volunteers from Trent & Dove, we have facilitated the make-over of the Multi-Use Games Area at the Mayfield Recreational Association (MRA). We are also currently working on projects to install an outdoor gym at the MRA and revitalise the children’s playground.
Our events have raised funds for the outdoor gym, playground project, the Senior Social Club, the Wendy Club (Mayfield’s toddler group) and Santa’s annual tour around Mayfield. We are currently planning a children’s Christmas party for the under-elevens.
We started by inviting representatives of village groups to a cheese and wine evening and asking if there was anything we could do to help them. That started a productive partnership with the MRA and other village organisations.
Last year’s winners of the awards included the Burton Albion NCS (National Citizen Service) Team in the “Overall Impact on the Community by an Organisation” category and the Kingfisher project in the “Community Project” category.
We’ll let you know how we get on.
