Meet the Village Groups

On 4 May we held an Open Day and invited all the village groups to attend. Fifteen of them duly arrived and set up their stalls ready to introduce themselves to the people of Mayfield.

We held the event in conjunction with the Mayfield Parish Council who used it to host their Annual Meeting of the Parish with free wine and cake. Anyone with any complaints or comments about Mayfield was invited to talk to them and raise their issues. They were also interested in how all the village groups had progressed over the past year.

Soon joined by his co-editor, Joyce Beeson. Taking notes of issues raised by Gwen Johnson. They sold several new subscriptions to members of the village.

Scouts showed people how to make fire and tire knows — The scout stall showed people how to make fire and tie knots (using sticky sweet laces, which you got to eat when you’d tied the knot)

Other groups for children were the Wendy Club (0-5 years old) and Sunday Club (3-11 year-olds)

The Senior Social Club is looking for new members

As is Mayfield Bowling Club – Just £10 a year for under-sixteens to join

The bell-ringers gained some prospective campanologists. Their oldest church bell dates from
1515. Additions in the 17th, 19th and 20th centuries brought the total to a ring of six.

Thank you all who attended, visitors and groups, and to Simon Sowter for volunteering on the bar for the afternoon. The aim of the event was to bring the village groups together, make new connections and show the people of Mayfield the many activities and clubs which are available. If you were unable to be there but would like information about any of the groups, just contact MARNA and we will be happy to send you the details.

Groups attending were: MARNA (Mayfield and Rocester Neighbourhood Association), MRA (Mayfield Recreation Association), Parish Council, Writers Group, Mayfield Bowling Club, Senior Social Club, Wendy Club, Sunday Club, PCC (Parochial Church Council), Bell Ringers, Scout & Beavers, Memorial Hall, Mayfield & Ellastone First Responders, Line Dancing and Country Music Club.

Please can I have some information on the plans for the new playground and outdoor gym?

Hi Kate

We are currently applying for funding for both the outdoor gym and the playground. The gym equipment will be a mix with something suitable for all ages from 14 up to 100. The site for it is at the bottom end of the MRA. The new playground equipment will be for younger children. We’re also hoping to get some picnic benches in the playground. We’ll have the catalogues of the items we want to buy at our public meeting in June and welcome input from people.
