The newly-formed Mayfield and Rocester Neighbourhood Association (MARNA) are holding their first public meeting on Saturday 30 March from 4-5 pm in the Mayfield Memorial Hall, off Conygree Lane, DE6 2LD.

The group has been created to put on community events and contribute to village projects. They have already brought together representatives of twelve Mayfield groups at a cheese and wine evening. This led to some very productive discussion about future schemes. Chair of MARNA, Mrs Alz Coates, said “It was really nice to see members of other groups have a good catch up and we’re looking forward to working with them in the near future.

She added “I am very pleased with how far we have come already and I hope that MARNA will be successful in bringing the community together.

On Easter Saturday MARNA are holding an Easter Egg hunt and running craft and quiz sessions for children under-eleven. Members of Mayfield’s Senior Social Club have volunteered to use their considerable craft skills to help the children with the activities.

Although funded and supported by Trent and Dove Housing Association, MARNA is for all residents of Mayfield, Rocester and Stanton, not just those in Trent and Dove properties. At the moment the association is purely Mayfield-based, but hopes soon to attract members from Rocester and Stanton. They have met Mayfield and Rocester parish councils, the members of both of which were very supportive.
